MiY Makerspace

The Piscataway Public Library provides a variety of opportunities for the public to learn new skills, cultivate and prototype new ideas, as well as collaborate and create through hands-on engagement.  We do this by :

  • Organizing instructor-led, project-based, and STEAM activities for all ages
  • Coordinating large-scale family-friendly events such as New Jersey Makers Day, Tiny Art Show, How-to Festival, Family Craft Days, and more!
  • Providing access to unique state-of-the-art tools and resources through our library’s MIY makerspace (at the Kennedy Library)

The Library is thrilled to announce the complete renovation of our makerspace in 2025!

This project includes several new upgrades that will improve and enhance creative and learning experiences!

These improvements include :

  • Increased space capacity
  • Updated 3D printing and laser cutting technology
  • New windows, floors, and lighting
  • New flexible storage, which includes project and work surface enhancements
  • An upgraded HVAC system, including ventilation exhaust system for fabrication equipment
  • Additional power receptacles, including retractable power to improve space flexibility

We are excited for this space to be a gateway for your learning and creative experiences!

We welcome opportunities to work with you one-on-one to bring your project or vision to life! Appointments are scheduled based on staff availability and are only available at the Kennedy Library. You can contact us at miy@piscatawaylibrary.org to request an appointment with one of our staff

We will work to match you with a staff member who can assist you with your project.  Same-day appointments are not available.

As we receive a high volume of requests for our custom services, please allow 4 business days for a reply to your email inquiry.

The Piscataway Public Library offers a service for producing 3D prints. The cost for this service is $0.10 per gram. Please note we can only accept cash payment for 3D print jobs.

3D CAD files can be submitted for review, in .stl or .obj format, using our 3D Print Service Submission Form to receive a customized quote for your print job.

Once you receive a quoted price, you can :

  1. Confirm whether you would like us to print the item for you or not
  2. Select your color and agree to the quote.

Once the file has completed printing and is ready, we will contact you and the print job can be picked up at the Kennedy Library reference desk anytime during regular hours.

For more information regarding our 3D printing service, please refer to our 3D Printing Use Guidelines.

For most appointments, we will need you to provide your own supplies. However, there are a few situations where you must use our supplies, at a nominal cost:

  • Sublimation Mugs: $5 per mug
  • Buttons: 25 cents each
  • Keychains: $1 each
  • Magnets: $1 each

We are happy to provide a list of suggested items and vendors for appropriate supplies upon request.
