Part Time Page

Under supervision of the User Services Department Supervisor, performs routine, repetitive tasks associated primarily with the sorting and shelving of library materials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Shelving library materials and arranging in proper order
  • Maintaining general orderliness of shelves and other public areas
  • Emptying internal and external book drops
  • Collection merchandising for displays
  • Reviewing missing, in-transit and repairs lists as requested

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

  • Ability to sort alphabetically and numerically
  • Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions
  • Ability to communicate courteously and clearly with customers and staff

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stoop, crouch, reach, walk, stand for extended lengths of time in provision of library services
  • Ability and dexterity to handle, reach for, carry, and transport materials up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to read print material and computer screens
  • Vocal ability to communicate clearly and courteously with customers, co-workers and groups outside the library          
  • The ability to write clearly and effectively
  • Hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made to their known limitations. If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.

SCHEDULE AND SALARY

Approximately 7-12 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours as needed. $15.92 per hour, based on New Jersey Minimum Wage effective in 2025.
