How can I donate used books to the library?

The library collects donations of used and like-new materials on behalf of the Friends of the Library, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization of volunteers who fundraise to support Piscataway Library. Items can be dropped of at the front desk of either branch of the Piscataway Public Library during regular business hours. We request that large donations only be brought to the Kennedy Branch. In the weeks leading up to one of our two semi-annual book sales, the library does not accept donations. We recommend you call the library at 732-463-1633 in advance to confirm that the library is currently accepting donations. Your donation is tax-deductable; please ask for a form to fill out when you bring your donations into the library.

Donations commonly accepted include: new and used children's books, adult fiction books, DVDs, CDs, small children's board games and puzzles.

The library will not accept the following:

  • Books with evidence of mold, mildew or water damage
  • Textbooks
  • Encylopedia sets more than five years old
  • Most nonfiction books more than five years old
  • Computer books more than three years old
  • VHS tapes
  • Audio cassettes
  • Items that are damaged or missing pieces

Donations that are not used to stock ongoing or annual Friends of the Library Book Sales are distributed or disposed of at the discretion of the Friends of the Library.
