PPL Departments

The library is comprised of five main departments: Administration, Adult and Young Adult Services, Children's Services, Circulation Services and Technology and Technical Services.

Administration

Administration is responsible for formulation and implementation of policy, personnel, budget preparation and management of library accounts, building maintenance, marketing, strategic planning, liaison to the trustees and the Friends of the Library. Administrative, Adult/Young Adult and Children's Services staff work on maintaining the library website so that it is a vital information source for residents.

Adult and Young Adult Services

Adult and Young Adult Services provides materials and services for young adults age 12 and up and the adult population of Piscataway. Staff is responsible for collection development in print and non-print resources, program planning, maintenance of the local history room, inter-library loan, development and provision of reference sources in both print and electronic formats. We provide reference service in person by telephone, fax machine and the Internet.

Children's Services Department

The Children's Services Department provides print and non-print materials for children age 6 months to 12 years of age. We provide an assortment of reading readiness programs for preschoolers and programming for school age children plus reference and readers' advisory to those who utilize the Children's Room collections.

Circulation Services

Circulation Services ensures that all circulating materials are properly charged and discharged from customer accounts and returned to the shelves in proper order. They pursue overdue accounts, process and file periodicals and paperbacks and assist with general inquiries.

The Technical Services and Technology Department

The Technical Services Department orders, catalogs and processes all new library materials.  The Technology Department maintains all library computers both for public and staff use.
