Be Creative!

Adult Summer Reading '09

Creativity is a mental and social process that results in the development of new ideas. Being creative is a continual process, and like any other skill, requires practice. In a way, our lives are defined by our creativity, and our own ability to innovate and make changes to ourselves and our environment. Your public library provides a wealth of information that can help you in this process, from public computers and cultural programs, to books, music, and movies.

Contest

Flex your creative muscle this summer and learn something new!

  1. Sign up for Adult Summer Reading at the Adult Information desk at Kennedy or Westergard Library to get a contest card.
  2. Read a book from one of the categories or genres listed on the card, and write down the title and author on the reverse side of the card.
  3. Then bring your card in to Kennedy or Westergard Library and have a librarian mark off which genre you’ve completed.
  4. For each category you complete, you will be entered into the ASR raffle (limit 5 entries). Prizes include hot summer books, family passes for the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, and an iPod shuffle.

Programs

  • Summer Concert Series: Eric Mintel Quartet. Join us for an afternoon of jazz - infused with funk, Latin, and gospel - as we fill the Kennedy Library with the smooth sounds of EMQ. Pianist Eric Mintel will be joined by Nelson Hill on saxophone and flute, electric bassist Dave Antonow, and drummer Dave Mohn. Saturday, July 18 at 2:00 pm.
  • Summer Concert Series: Sounds from India. Come to the Kennedy Library and immerse yourself in this offering of different musical styles from India. Performers will appear courtesy of the Academy of Indian Music in South Plainfield. Saturday, August 8 at 2:00 pm.
  • ASR'09: Wii Party! Video games are kids stuff? No way! Come take a break from paying bills and join other big kids (aka adults) for an end of the summer celebration. We’ll be playing games on Nintendo Wii and announcing the grand prize winner of the iPod shuffle! Saturday, August 22 at 2:00 pm.
