Collections and Services

24-Hour Live Reference Services
Piscataway Public Library offers QandANJ, a free, live, interactive search-assistance service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Children's Services
Trained staff in Children's Services offer outreach to schools and day care facilities as well as a variety of programs for children. Storytimes are offered for children starting at six months old, and include storytimes for toddlers, pre-schoolers, kindergarteners and primary grade students. Other activities include craft programs, reading clubs and special celebrations. The children's collection of books and audio-visual materials serves children through grade six.

Circulating DVDs
Started at Kennedy Library in June 2000 with a grant from the Friends of the Library, this collection now boasts over 700 titles.  A smaller collection was begun at the Westergard Branch in March 2001.  Piscataway residents may borrow up to 2 DVDs at a time, for a circulation period of 2 days.

Coin-Operated Copy Machines
Each Library has coin-operated copy machines available for public use.

Computer and Electronic Resources
Piscataway Public Library offers iBistro, our online electronic catalog; Public Computers and the Internet; Wireless Internet Access; CD-ROM Stations; and the Self-Teaching Video Professor System.

Local History Collection
The Local History Collection contains material about the township of Piscataway from its founding in 1666, and the surrounding towns which were once part of the Township. In addition, some material about Middlesex County and the State of New Jersey are included to provide an understanding of the role of the Township in a larger context.

Meeting Rooms
Available at both Libraries, the Meeting Rooms may be reserved for public gatherings when they are not being used for Library programs. Meeting rooms are available for a modest fee during the hours the Library is open. Application forms and rules for the use of the rooms are available here on the Library's web site.

Notary Services
A Notary Public is available at Kennedy Library on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 - 6:00 pm and from 6:30 - 8:30 pm; and at Westergard Library on Thursday afternoons from 1:30 - 4:30 pm. Please call first to check on the availability of the Notary Public and on the guidelines for Notary Services.

Parenting Collection
Located at both the Kennedy and Westergard Libraries, the Parenting Collection contains books, magazines, newspapers and videos of interest to parents, teachers and librarians.

Programs and Activities
The Library maintains an active year-round schedule of programs for community members of all ages. Please check the Library's "News & Events" publication or the Library web site for announcements. Some activities do require pre-registration, so check with the Library in advance. A sampling of activities includes: concerts, crafts, exhibits, family entertainment, story times, Summer Reading Clubs, informative workshops, holiday programs, lectures, films, adult book discussions and an ESL Conversation Group.

Reference Services
Each Library has staff members specially trained in Children's and Adult and Young Adult Services to handle your questions and requests for materials. The Library subscribes to electronic databases providing researchers with newspaper and magazine citations on a variety of subjects. Full text articles are often available. As a member of the New Jersey Library Network, Piscataway Library has the power to go far beyond its own doors to provide needed information.

Special Services and Collections
The Library offers programs and materials for people who  may require special services to meet their information needs.

Typewriters
A typewriter is available for public use, and is located at the Westergard Library.

World Language Collections
Piscataway Public Library has a World Language Collection of over 3000 items housed at the J. F. Kennedy and J. W. Westergard Libraries for both adults and children.
